Volume variability diagnostic for 4D datasets

چکیده
[1] Recent advances in the compilation of the climate science databases, derived from observations and model simulations, help in estimating trends and variability of current and past atmospheric conditions. However, an exponential increase in the amount of information limits its comprehension. In this paper we present a simple diagnostic, named as “volume variability”, that allows for analysis of multidimensional fields of climate variables. The simplicity inherent in the new diagnostic, calculated as a product of variances along a set of directions, and its transparent interpretation thereof will enable its use as a metric for the quick and easy comparison of the 3D time series of models and observations. Using this diagnostic, we explore the evolution of the temperature and geopotential height fields over the Southern Hemisphere Cap region by way of four reanalysis systems. Four-dimensional ultrasonography of the fetal heart using a novel Tomographic Ultrasound Imaging display.
OBJECTIVE The objective of this study was to investigate the feasibility of examining the fetal heart with Tomographic Ultrasound Imaging (TUI) using four-dimensional (4D) volume datasets acquired with spatiotemporal image correlation (STIC). MATERIAL AND METHODS One hundred and ninety-five fetuses underwent 4D ultrasonography (US) of the fetal heart with STIC. Volume datasets were acquired w...
متن کاملOptimized Graphical Processing Unit Processing Framework for Surface Rendering in 4D Ultrasound Imaging
Four-dimensional (4D) ultrasound imaging extends the real-time capability of ultrasound to visualize a realtime volume that can be manipulated by the sonographer. Among the different visualization methods, surface rendering is a common mode for displaying volumetric datasets such as in obstetrical applications. A challenge in this mode is that surface shading is required to visualize the surfac...
متن کاملFast 4D segmentation of large datasets using graph cuts
In this paper, we propose to use 4D graph cuts for the segmentation of large spatio-temporal (4D) datasets. Indeed, as 4D datasets grow in popularity in many clinical areas, so will the demand for efficient general segmentation algorithms. The graph cuts method has become a leading method for complex 2D and 3D image segmentation in many applications. Despite a few attempts in 4D, the use of gra...
متن کاملComparison of Texture Features Derived from Static and Respiratory-Gated PET Images in Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer
BACKGROUND PET-based texture features have been used to quantify tumor heterogeneity due to their predictive power in treatment outcome. We investigated the sensitivity of texture features to tumor motion by comparing static (3D) and respiratory-gated (4D) PET imaging. METHODS Twenty-six patients (34 lesions) received 3D and 4D [18F]FDG-PET scans before the chemo-radiotherapy. The acquired 4D...
متن کاملA Comparison of 4D DSA with 2D and 3D DSA in the Analysis of Normal Vascular Structures in a Canine Model.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE 4D DSA allows viewing of 3D DSA as a series of time-resolved volumes of a contrast bolus. There is no comparison of the accuracy of the anatomic information provided by 4D DSA with that available from conventional 2D and 3D DSA. Our purpose was to make this comparison by using a canine model. MATERIALS AND METHODS 2D, 3D, and 4D DSA acquisitions were performed in 5 cani...
